Pet Passports: Taking your pet on holiday

NEW GUIDANCE FOR PET TRAVEL WITHIN THE EU

From 1 January 2021, GB will have ‘Part 2 listed’ status. What does this mean? Find out below:

  • Current EU passports for your pet will no longer be valid after 1 January 2021
  • Animal Health Certificates (AHC) will be required for pet dogs, cats and ferrets
  • You can obtain an AHC from a government certified official vet (OV) which some of our vets are
  • Pets will need to be vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days before travel
  • An AHC is valid for 10 days after the date of issue for entry into the EU
  • The certificate is valid for a single trip to the EU
  • It is valid for onward travel within the EU for 4 months after the date of issue
  • The AHC is valid for re-entry to GB for 4 months after the date of issue.
  • To get an AHC, pet owners must bring along proof of their pet’s microchipping date, pet’s vaccination history and details of the destination and date of travel

If you have ANY questions about the upcoming changes to travel within the EU then please speak to one of our team members or find further details on the government website: Click here.

Please note, the issuing of an Animal Health Certificate for EU travel requires a considerable amount of time so an extended appointment is required, and only certain members of our Veterinary team are currently OV’s and so able to issue these certificates. The certificate also needs to be issued within 10 days of travel. Therefore, we would strongly advise that if you require an AHC then you book your appointment well ahead, ideally as soon you know your date of departure, to try to ensure that we can accommodate you and avoid any disappointment. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to issue AHCs for everyone who wishes to travel, particularly during busy holiday periods.
