Julian Street – Vet

Julian was a house mate of both Andy and Guy’s at Bristol Vet Shool and has remained close friends with many of the Natterjacks team ever since those days, making regular trips to the south coast to catch up with his old colleagues.

We are therefore hugely excited to finally be in a position to bring our esteemed and much loved old friend into our growing family in Poole where his cheerful disposition, quick wit and warm, personable nature will make him an exceptionally popular addition to the team.  His intrinsic familiarity with the team and practice ethos will ensure that staff, clients and patients will find themselves instantly at ease with someone that they will feel they have known forever!

Andy, Vicki, Emily and Jules at Bristol Vet School in 2002!

As well as being a top chap, Jules is also a talented and experienced vet with interests in advanced soft tissue surgery, internal medicine and feline medicine.

Julian is very much the family man these days and brings to the area his wife Laura and two children, Tessa and Douglas, who are all extremely excited to be making the area their permanent home having enjoyed so many visits here on holiday.

When not busy at work Jules enjoys spending time with his friends and family, preferably to include adventures in the great outdoors – when the weather permits! Jules is a self confessed aviation nerd and enjoys attending air shows.  He is a also a keen photographer.

Julian’s interest in photography started early!

Housemates at uni – a very young looking Guy, Andy and Jules!

25 things you never knew about Jules!

1.       The 3 things I would take on a desert island……
Something to play music with, a telescope or binoculars for stargazing, is it cheating to bring the family along too?
2.       When I was younger I wanted to be……
A fighter pilot, an archaeologist or a vet (blame Top Gun, Indiana Jones and James Herriot respectively.)
3.       3 famous people (dead or alive) I would invite to a dinner party……
David Attenborough, Eric “Winkle” Brown (test pilot) and Brian Cox. It would be pretty geeky.
4.       My guilty pleasure……
Pie, I love a good pie.
5.       What makes Natterjacks different……
The team, most of us go back together a long way, and that shows in our work, the practice is full of lovely people.
6.       My proudest ‘claim to fame’ or celebrity encounter…
Prince Charles complimented me on the shininess of my helmet. It had a spinning red light on top, I was six.
7.       Two things I consider myself to be very bad at…..
Any activity where something other than a shoe is attached to my feet (eg. rollerblading), getting up early.
8.       Two things I consider myself to be very good at…
I think I’m funny (this is a matter of opinion, please don’t disillusion me), staying in bed, although not since the kids arrived.
9.       One thing that not many people know about me….
Probably just my shameful pie addiction
10.   I was frightened for my life at work when…
I fell through the floor on a house visit try to catch an old lady’s cat, she was surprisingly good about it.
11.   My most annoying habit .…
Snoring, apparently.
12.   The song I would perform in a Karaoke bar is…
Either White Wedding by Billy Idol as I know from bitter experience that I can empty a pub “singing” that, or Sabotage by the Beastie Boys. It’s probably for the best that I do neither.
13.   If I was forced to live anywhere else than the beautiful south coast of Dorset I would live…
Somewhere tropical, or the far West coast of Scotland.
14.   I you were to look in my fridge right now you would find….
Cheese, an inexplicable four bottles of ketchup and the remains of any excellent apple crumble my wife Laura made yesterday
15.   My favourite place to go for dinner is….
I’m really not fussy.
16.   If I won the lottery my first purchase would be….
I have a long mental list of cars from the 80s and 90s that I lusted over as a kid to work through should this happen, most of them aren’t even that good. Probably the best first purchase would be somewhere with a decent garage to put them in.
17.   One place I really want to visit before I die is…
Iceland, I love photography and want to see the aurora
18.   My favourite holiday past-time is ……..
Spending time with my kids.
19.   If I was a vegetable, I would be a ….
Pickled onion?
20.   My weirdest phobia is ….
Plastic cellophane wrapping, particularly the type you get at work around packets of microscope slides. I have to get someone else to open them for me.
21.   If I could swap lives with anyone for a day it would be….
Any astronaut on the day of their launch.
22.   My favourite place to go for a walk…
Anywhere along the south coast, or with a bit of neolithic stuff to have a look at.
23.   The strangest thing I’ve ever seen at work …
A cat that had eaten a Trivial Pursuit wedge, it was pink (entertainment.) Most mogs are far too clever to do something that daft. Or an ostrich stuck in a cattle grid, that was pretty odd.
24.   I would hate to get stuck here ….
In traffic, nothing is worse.
25.   One thing I really want to do before I die is….
Live a long and happy life
